Qantas grounded its Airbus A380 fleet after one of the superjumbo jets blew out an engine Thursday, shooting flames and raining large metal chunks before making a safe emergency landing in Singapore with 459 people aboard.
Aviation experts in Europe believe they have identified a possible cause of the safety issue shown last week - engine pieces of a Qantas flight headed to Sydney fell over Indonesia. The plane made an emergency stop in Singapore.
Singapore Airlines pulled three A380s from service after the carrier found problems with three Rolls-Royce engines on the superjumbo jets. All six Qantas A380s remain grounded.
